Chennai Super Kings went on top of the table after stunning win over Kolkata Knight Riders by 9 wickets thanks to their bowlers and Matthew Hayden's second half-century of the IPL before he leave the IPL due to Australia’s 10 day camp. It was a first defeat for Kolkata Knight Riders. After winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders started innings well and put 32 runs before McCullum went early. Since then Kolkata Knight Riders never comeback in the game as Ponting goes for duck on first ball. Only Shukla did a good job and made 42 runs. Kolkata Knight Riders were restricted to 147 because of Jacob Oram’s 3 wickets and Muttiah Muralitharan’s excellent spell of 12 runs in 4 over.
Chasing 148 for victory, Chennai's openers made a solid start with 66 runs in a first-wicket partnership between Parthiv Patel and Hayden before Patel fell. He made 21 runs and that was only wicket for Kolkata Knight Riders. Since than Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Hayden did the job with 86 runs partnership to put Chennai an easy 9 wickets victory. Hayden was top scorer for Chennai Super kings and match. He made 70 in just 49 balls.
So after this match Kolkata Knight Riders suffer their first ever defeat in IPL while Chennai win their third straight encounter of IPL put them on top.
