Donald has suggested that Shaun Pollocks role in the South African team is under scrutiny. RSA now have two very quick bowlers, Ntini and Steyn. Both of them bowl over 140kmph. Pollock has indeed slowed down and missed the last test due to injury. Ntini and Steyn took a total of 35 wickets in the recent series against the black caps which they won 2-0.
Although pollock has bowled with consistency and being is miserly best Donald has admitted it is a difficult situation for them. |

Indian wicket-keeper & batting sensation Mahendra Singh Dhoni is confident that he will be able to keep performing for his team and not be affected by the West Indies pace bowling. Ahead of the practice match in Jamaica, Dhoni said that the tracks in the West Indies had slowed down over the years and that pace was not as big a factor as it used to be previously. He said the practice pitches that the team has been playing on provide strength to their belief that the pitches are not very quick. On whether he would be making any adjustments in his technique for the tour, he said he would make adjustments as and when they were required but did not see any immediate need for changes in his technique. Dhoni will be a huge threat to the West Indies going into the series as he is in incredible form and if the West Indies do not come up with plans to stop him, he could run away with the series for India. |

A day after Virendra Sehwag's comments on the player burnout issue and Sourav Ganguly issue he was given a warning by the BCCI. The BCCI was reportedly unhappy with Sehwag's comments in an interview with a news channel. Sehwag said that Sourav Ganguly was a good captain, who nurtured the youngsters well and that the team members miss him. He also spoke on the player burnout issue by pointing out that alot of the Indian players' performances could be affected at the 2007 world cup due to the fatigue of playing so many matches. Board secretary Niranjan Shah responded saying whichever players thought that they needed rest could take permission from the board to rest for a few matches and this way new players could also get a chance to play for the team and that would help in building the team for the future. Niranjan Shah aslo took a dig at Sehwag saying players who are out of form ,should on the contrary try to play as much as possible to regain form. The board has made it clear that the ICC cricket calender will be followed and that the board was only adhering to ICC guidelines of a maximum of 105 playing days in a years. |

In the middle of the excitement of India’s Kotla turnaround one point went almost unobserved — the speedometer showing when Irfan Pathan bowled. He touched in the 134-138 kmph range, significantly more than just a week ago at the Wankhede .
Some say that Pathan, a vital part in coach Greg Chappell’s Vision 2007, is being used judiciously and asked to slow down in Tests to avoid injury.
‘‘He slowed down in the Tests because he had to bowl on dead tracks; Kotla had some life in it. He was never a tearaway pacer, his main weapon was swing. The English are used to facing swing bowlers back home and at his speed — 126 kmph — he didn’t pose a big problem,’’ Said the MRF Pace Foundation director TA Sekar.
It is this vulnerability, Sekar points out, that sees Pathan go all out in those short spells during ODIs but holds back in Tests.
There are some who feel that this might be in the team’s interest but won’t be good for Pathan himself. ally. ‘‘I can’t figure out what the team management is up to’’, says a former India pace bowler who’s worked closely with Pathan. ‘‘When one asks a pacer to bowl slow and he goes wicketless he loses self-belief. These are temporary measures. People in the team management should find ways to see that Pathan bowls at this optimal pace in both forms of games.’’

After playing a second string side in first two tests England suffer another injury blow. This time it is their Paceman Steve Harmission, who has been ruled out after an X-Ray for his Shin. He is also in doubt for the seven match ODI series between the two teams. Harmission is the fifth player not playing in the side from the lineup which beat the Australians in the Ashes last summer. It is a big blow for the Poms and it is almost certain that James Anderson will be replacing him. |
