A day after Virendra Sehwag's comments on the player burnout issue and Sourav Ganguly issue he was given a warning by the BCCI. The BCCI was reportedly unhappy with Sehwag's comments in an interview with a news channel. Sehwag said that Sourav Ganguly was a good captain, who nurtured the youngsters well and that the team members miss him. He also spoke on the player burnout issue by pointing out that alot of the Indian players' performances could be affected at the 2007 world cup due to the fatigue of playing so many matches. Board secretary Niranjan Shah responded saying whichever players thought that they needed rest could take permission from the board to rest for a few matches and this way new players could also get a chance to play for the team and that would help in building the team for the future. Niranjan Shah aslo took a dig at Sehwag saying players who are out of form ,should on the contrary try to play as much as possible to regain form. The board has made it clear that the ICC cricket calender will be followed and that the board was only adhering to ICC guidelines of a maximum of 105 playing days in a years. |
